Joey's California Bistro, Phoenix

Venerable Valley restaurateur Tomaso Maggiore has opened a contemporary new bistro in North Phoenix. A wood-fired oven turns out crisp-crusted pizzas, bubbling pastas, and chicken, veal and seafood entrees. Wicker furnishings and colorful Italian-inspired art give a California feel. A semi-exhibition kitchen spans the back wall of the dining area. More than a dozen pizza combinations, ranging from a simple mozzarella to Thai chicken are offered. House specialties include Eggplant and Zucchini Torte, Fricassee of Chicken & Sausage, and San Francisco Cioppino. Full bar service is available.
