Tomaso's, Phoenix

Over the past two decades, restaurateur Tomaso Maggiore has built up somewhat of an Italian empire here in the Valley with far-flung cafes serving his tasty combination of classic and contemporary cuisine. His eatery on Camelback offers a more traditional ambiance while the other Tomaso's 2000 (at 16640 North Scottsdale Road +1 480 991 2000) has a more contemporary feel. Both offer first-class cuisine: Osso buco, cioppino, house-made pastas and veal dishes with professional, accommodating service. At the Scottsdale Road location, a Reubenesque nude is, unavoidably, the focus of the decor. She may be a bit jarring at first glance, but once you settle into your meal, the fabulous flavors will grab all of your attention.
