For an informative and entertaining look into Scottsdale’s history, pick up Joan Fudala’s "Scottsdale Images of America" book that gives an insightful look into the city’s start as a mercantile center. Scottsdale’s desert backdrop also has served as the filming scene for movies like "Back to the Future," "Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure," "Raising Arizona" and "Transamerica." Most recently, its Western-style haunts played host to scenes in "Queens of Country," a comedy starring Lizzy Caplan and Ron Livingston. And, while vampire heartthrob Robert Pattinson (unfortunately) has not shot a scene here, Scottsdale’s iconic Camelback Mountain made an appearance or two in the first movie installment of the "Twilight" series to illustrate Bella Swan’s hometown.
