Overview

As if LACMA was not already an enormous, awe-inspiring custodian and dispensary of art and culture, in 2005 it begot a notable offspring, The Broad Contemporary Art Museum, known as The Broad. A beefy 72,000 square-foot affair, commissioned of a renowned Italian architect, the museum holds many dazzling works by various famous and infamous creators and provocateurs from 1945 on, including Warhol, Koons, Basquiat, Sherman and others. Richard Serra's 70-foot-long sculpture occupying the ground floor of the Broad is alone enough reason for a visit. Temporary exhibits pull in remarkable assortments of edgy fresh work from around the globe. This wicked infant is something to see and to count with. You can do so as cheaply as you like daily after 17:00 during the pay-what-you-can hours. - Kate Sobol
