  We were planning to go to Berlin in October this year. I called the German National Tourist office in Manhattan Beach, California looking for some general travel information. I wanted to stop in and pick up a brochure or two. "The office is not open to the public and we don't have materials for you" is what the person who answered the phone said. "Only open to travel agents." They wanted to refer me to travel agents. The person I spoke with didn't sound as if he had ever been to Germany. The thing that was really disappointing is the name, German National Tourist Office, is misleading for the general public. The office is just a Travel Agent referral center.
