Quite a few gourmet connoisseurs would earnestly declare Harold and Belle's hands down the best Cajun/Creole restaurant in Los Angeles. Located well off the beaten path on Crenshaw, the restaurant is nonetheless always bustling due to its long-standing stellar reputation. The atmosphere is mellow and a tad romantic, with soft low-key lighting and white table cloths. The pricing is a bit spiked, but still reasonable. The menu boasts the whole gamut of Cajun staple delicacies, and the cooking is nothing short of finger-licking scrumptious. Ingredients, textures, niceties of flavors are all first-rate. The food presentation far exceeds the average in both class and panache. Enamored patrons report that one would be loathe to miss out on their etouffee, gumbo, popcorn shrimp starter, and peach cobbler. - Kate Sobol
