Sompun, Los Angeles

This family-run restaurant serves up delicious Thai dishes from a charming little house. The Mee Krob is highly recommended, as are several of the rice combination platters. According to L.A. Weekly food critic Jonathan Gold, the Sompun Restaurants may be the only two places in Los Angeles where the northern-Thai specialty "Kai Soi" can be found. This dish has a chilled and lemon-grass-flavored coconut milk broth, warming thin egg noodles and caramelized garlic. Deep-fried egg noodles to sprinkle over the top come on the side. Tea and soft drinks are served since alcohol is not available. In pleasant weather, you are even given the option of dinning out in the open.
