Kaju Soft Tofu, Orange County

Competition among Asian restaurants in Irvine is stiff, especially among the surprisingly few and rare Korean tofu joints—but Kaju Soft Tofu is the definite winner. The location is great, right by the Interstate-5, with many other Asian points of interest in the neighborhood. The decoration is unique and authentic. The walls are covered with Korean-script wallpaper, adding a touch of cultural sophistication. Some things you would never have thought to hang on a wall, the owners of Kaju Soft Tofu did—colorful Korean fans, straw baskets and table mats, and even drums! The menu basically features two things: clay pot (tofu and rice) and barbecue. Each has a variety, and you can't go wrong either way. - Hoiyin Ip
