Backstreet Bistro is located at the very end of Palm Desert's upscale El Paseo Drive, offering simple Tuscan-inspired cuisine in their warmly lit bistro space and dog-friendly patio with spectacular views of the San Jacinto Mountains. Repeat customers agree that lunch is the main attraction at Backstreet, simple sandwiches and salads a welcome addition to the relaxing ambiance of the outdoor seating. The dinner menu is decidedly more Italian, featuring a familiar lineup of antipasti, soups, salads, and pasta dishes, some of the recipes for which came from the family cookbook according to the management. Service can be a bit strained during crowded dinner rushes, especially during live jazz nights, and the nearby population of seniors are the most frequent patrons to the restaurant, leaving younger guests feeling a bit overlooked. Backstreet Bistro certainly doesn't break any new ground with their menu, but the views from the patio are reason enough to hazard an attempt at lunch. Be advised: Backstreet Bistro is closed seasonally, so it's a good idea to have a back up plan in the event of a closed restaurant.
