Tart To Tart, San Francisco

There are two locations for this purveyor of yummy baked goods. The original Irving Street location is techno-mellow with exposed pipes and fans hanging from a very high ceiling. Posters of classic film stars share the stippled and half-paneled walls with paintings by local artists. The second location on Geary is a scooch, more sophisticated in decor with slightly less seating, which sometimes means the occasional hint to vacate your table if you have lingered too long. Scones, muffins, cookies, and cakes are all available, including the signature Lemon Tart (with just the right citrus tang to balance the sweetness). You can also get a nostalgically classic root beer float.
