Overview

This is a handy trail if you want something that is relatively close to town and that will free you from the crowds. The hike is 3.6 miles (5.8 kilometers) one way, and because it gains almost 2000 feet (61 meters) in elevation, it does have its moments of agony. After starting in thick lodgepole pine, it eventually yields to alpine tundra above tree line. Camping and fishing is allowed at Grizzly Lake, but remember to bring a stove since fires are not permitted. Follow Route 82 east to Lincoln Creek Road on your right. Follow this dirt road for 6.1 miles (9.8 kilometers), and the trailhead will be just beyond the reservoir.
