Located just four miles (6.4 kilometers) south from the famed Maroon Bells, the most photographed mountains in the United States, this campground is considered as the prime place to camp in Aspen. Its backdrop of towering peaks and thick stands of aspen is staggering. And better yet, the campsite offers immediate access to hiking, horseback riding and fishing. The campground only offers a few sites so it is best to make reservations in advance. Follow Highway 82 west out of town for one mile (1.6 kilometers). Turn left on Maroon Creek Road and follow it for just over five miles (8 kilometers). The well-marked campground will be on your left. Water, dumpsters and vault toilets are provided. Showers are just five miles (8 kilometers) down the road at the town pool.
