Overview

Ore mining was the primary industry in Louisville's early days and the Coal Creek Mine was the largest in the area, to the point where today many buildings, streets, and other locations are named after it in some way. The Coal Creek hiking trail, which winds through downtown Louisville's vast open space, follows the path of the mine from Louisville to Lafayette. The hike is far from strenuous but still long enough for some good exercise, and offers views of the remains of the Louisville wetlands, the mountains, local wildlife, and lots of beautiful open space. Bring lots of water to avoid dehydration and altitude sickness. -Sabrina Zirakzadeh
