Colorado Springs Pop Culture

Colorado Springs has been the setting for a variety of minor movies and TV shows, few of them memorable. Who will remember the “Perry Mason” episode filmed here, for example? The military base inside Cheyenne Mountain was the inspiration for the movie "War Games." And “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman,” supposedly was set in Colorado Springs, but looked nothing like it does or ever did. The quintessential book about Colorado Springs is Pikes Peak, a trilogy by Frank Waters, a famous Southwestern writer who was born and raised here. For a look at the city’s founding citizens and their ideas, ideals and goals, read Newport in the Rockies, by Marshall Sprague. Some good guidebooks to consider include: The Best Colorado Springs Hikes, from the Colorado Mountain Club, and Frommer’s City Guides that include Colorado Springs.
