Though it was written in the 1880s by an unusual British woman, we think Isabella Bird understood our region well. Read her observations about the Colorado Territory in A Lady's Life in the Rocky Mountains. James A. Michener's 928-page Centennial does a good job of explaining the spirit of the people who formed Colorado. Since the region’s all about the outdoors, you might want to learn more about the area’s wildlife by reading Colorado Wildlife Viewing Guide by Mary Taylor Gray. And for a more recent take on Denver in film, check out the 1995 film Things to Do in Denver When You’re Dead.
