Gumbo's, Denver

You may start speaking in a Cajun tongue involuntarily when you step through the doors of Gumbo's Louisiana Style Café/Bar/Restaurant (depending on your perception). It bills itself as a café; as a bar, the drinks are exceptionally reasonable; but restaurant seems to be the best description because either the lunch and dinner menus read like a good ole Louisiana boy's – or girl's – dream list. The Sweet Potato Catfish topped with sautéed crabmeat and spinach will transport you to ‘Nawlins quicker than Kirk's transporter. Gumbo's is part of a chain, but the Denver locale is not typical of one. -Theresa Ludwick
