Overview

This trail, in Evergreen's Elk Meadow Park, is camera-snapping proof that moderate hikes can be fun and interesting. Located just 20 minutes west of Denver, this five-mile hike offers a surprising diversity of both flora and wildlife. In between tall stands of aspens are vast meadows that explode each summer with a variety of colorful wildflowers. The elk are numerous and easy to spot, especially during the fall rutting season. Take I-70 west into the foothills and get off at exit 242, which blends into route 74 south. Follow this for six miles and then make a right on Stagecoach Boulevard. Follow it for about a mile to the trail head parking lot on the right.
