Architect Philip Johnson designed this famous glass house, built in 1949, which officially became a National Trust site open to the public in 2007. Johnson had no need for windows in this building as it is constructed almost entirely of glass (except, thankfully, for the bathroom). The house blends magically with the surrounding environs, blurring the line between the natural and man-made. It's a must-see for fans of modern art and architecture. Call for timings.
