Best Miami Nightlife

AOL PICK from our Editors
New York may be known as The City That Never Sleeps, but insomniacs will never find themselves at a loss for something to do in Miami. Though the dynamic has changed over the past 20 years, South Beach—where the most exclusive clubs make their home—still reigns when it comes to the see-and-be-seen scene. Still, when it comes to tracking down the best Miami nightlife, the variety of options has broadened, so you can groove to throbbing house music and laser lights one night and then settle in with a glass of wine at a leisurely lounge or take in some Top 40 the next.

Nikki Beach/Club 01

Neighborhood: South Beach
By day it’s a beach club, by night, this huge oceanfront complex is a nightclub and restaurant that has recently been revamped with a new menu. Upstairs, what used to be Club Nikki is the newly minted Club O1 (as in One Ocean, only transposed), where the flip-flops and shorts that are welcome attire downstairs are not allowed and where the décor is a tribute to “the Gilded Age,” with a gold ceiling, Louis XIV armchairs and a swank champagne bar. O1 is open Sundays 11PM-5AM.

Cafeina Lounge

Neighborhood: Wynwood
Located in the Wynwood neighborhood, Cafeina has an unusual vibe for Miami—it’s an understated, elegantly appointed lounge combined with an art gallery and a 5,000-square-foot garden for outdoor exhibits and al fresco events. There’s a full bar where you can sample signature cocktails, like the café con leche martini (hence, the “café” in “Cafeina”), and a well-designed tapas menu (with crab cakes referred to as “the best I’ve ever eaten” by Martha Stewart). Happy hour is Wednesday through Saturday from 5 to 8PM. One caveat: It’s not a great neighborhood, so be alert to your surroundings if you go.

Mansion

Neighborhood: South Beach
Longtime nightlife impresarios Eric Milon, Frances Milon and Roman Jones—collectively, The Opium Group—are behind this megaclub, one of several hot-spots for which they are responsible; Cameo, Set and Louis are three of the other jewels in their crown. But it’s Mansion where vacationing celebrities such as Jeremy Piven come to chill and take in the hip hop and house music. The state-of-the-art dance space is an architectural feast for the eyes, with great arches, Venetian glass mirrors, fireplaces, crystal chandeliers and intimate seating areas perfect for sipping champagne and people-watching between dances. The cover charge runs between $20-$30. Open Tuesday-Sunday 11PM to 5AM.

Mynt Lounge

Neighborhood: South Beach
For seven years, this Mynt has enjoyed the reputation as one of the best Miami clubs. The exclusive venue has attracted the crème de la crème of the club scene, thanks to owner Romain Zago’s strict standards for his establishment, his staff and his clientele. The philosophy here is, “Cater to the customer,” whether that customer is you, me or, as is often the case, Giselle Bundchen, Cameron Diaz or Jennifer Lopez. Paparazzi are not allowed into this massive, 6,000-square-foot space, where the air is fragrant with aromatherapy and famous DJs spin tunes when top-name bands are not playing live. Dress the part if you want to get in; the door staff is choosy about who they admit. The cover charge runs between $10 and $20. Open Thursday-Sunday 11PM to 5AM.

MI-IV

Neighborhood: Gulfstream Park
Famed South Beach “King of the Night” Gerry Kelly takes his show a few miles north to the sprawling new Village at Gulfstream Park and pulls out all the stops in this gorgeously appointed, elegant space described as a fusion of “the opulence of the British House of Windsor with the theatrical and eccentric Studio 54.” Every weekend night brings something new: Thursday, a hip hop party; Friday, a fashion show; Saturday, a celebrity-hosted dance jam and tunes by star resident spin doctor DJ Irie; “Sacred Sundays” are reggae themed. Enjoy boutique dining before you party, or sip cocktails at one of the six bars. Call for cover charge.
