Best Naples Hotels

AOL PICK from our Editors
This is where Naples really shines: We’re hard pressed to think of another city this size that has the sheer number of quality hotels. These aren’t the cash-and-flash palaces of Las Vegas, either; Naples was founded by people who, everyone knows, have money, so there’s no need for extravagant displays. Everything is understated (if you consider marble everything understated). Service is across-the-board excellent and if you have any Gatsby fantasies, this is the place to indulge them.

The Ritz-Carlton, Naples

Neighborhood: Coco River
Price Range: Expensive
True to its brand, this Ritz-Carlton clearly considers attention to details a priority, which is obvious from its superior service, grounds and accommodations. Guests all get magnificent views of the Gulf of Mexico, 3 miles of private beach, and a spa, a salon and a fitness center, all of which are open seven days a week. If outdoor activity is what you crave, you can golf at the Greg Norman-designed Tiburόn Golf Course, get your Venus Williams on at the tennis courts, grab a kayak or paddleboat and hit the water, or just loll around in a cabana reading and enjoying the concierge service. There are nearly 10 ways to satisfy your appetite, from the white-linen elegance of The Grill steakhouse to the Sushi Bar or to the kid-friendly Italian eatery, The Terrace. If you have kids along, they’ll be intrigued by Nature’s Wonders, an eco-education and fun center that has touch tanks, aquariums and even a lab. This is one of Ritz-Carlton’s signature properties and there’s no way you’re going to walk away disappointed. It’s pricey, but if you want to experience real luxury, worth every penny.

The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club

The Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club

Neighborhood: Coquina Sands
Price Range: Expensive
Founded in the 1880s and family owned and operated for the past 60 years, the Naples Beach Hotel & Golf Club has long been held dear by residents for its golf course, beachside bar and Sunday brunch. Rooms here start at $279 per night during high season, when you can get a rate special. The hotel is an older structure, so it’s more Old Florida clubby than Park Avenue elegant, with overstuffed furniture, wood floors and long, covered balconies. The property underwent a multimillion-dollar renovation over the past few years, receiving updates such as flat-screen TVs and modernized beds and bathrooms. There’s a free Klub 4 Kids, plus tennis courts, an on-site spa, an 18-hole golf course built in 1920 and, most recently, refreshed by uber-architect Ron Garl, and the very popular beachside Sunset Beach Bar, which is as busy serving up frozen daiquiris during the scorching daylight hours as it is in the evening when local residents come out to unwind with a glass of wine and watch the sun set. And did we mention there’s a beach? The long stretch of fine-grain white sand even has a pool overlooking the Gulf and there are suites with kitchenettes, great for families.

Edgewater Beach Hotel

Edgewater Beach Hotel

Neighborhood: Coquina Sands
Price Range: Expensive
This Waldorf Astoria property sits on the beach and has two pools, with an outdoor bar where you can refresh with a cocktail or recover from a long morning of swimming with a hearty lunch. It looks and feels like a Caribbean resort, with mustard plaster walls, balconies and simple, modern furnishings. Dine on site at the chic Coast restaurant; spa at the opulently designed Golden Door; take your best shot on the tennis court, or play a few rounds on the private Naples Grande golf course. In season, this will set you back $400 - $1,500 per night. Now, the best part: Summer rates at this all-suite hotel start at $149 per night, and high-season rates for a 700-square-foot suite start at $199 if you reserve far enough in advance.

Hotel Escalante Hotel Escalante

Hotel Escalante

Neighborhood: Old Naples Price Range: Expensive
More like a large home than a small hotel, the hidden-away Hotel Escalante houses just 10 rooms, from a traditional guest room with a private patio on the small end to a two-bedroom villa on the larger end. French doors, mahogany appointments, armoires and king-0size beds with luxe Frette linens collectively capture the Florida feeling vacationers love. Unlike a private residence, there is an onsite gourmet restaurant and a full-service spa. While it tends to go pricey during season, there are excellent off-season offers, such as one-bedroom lanai suite with private patio for as low as $185 a night; even from Christmas through January a regular guest room can be booked for under $250 (suites and villas are higher), a major value for this highly regarded boutique property even if it’s not on the beach.

Inn on Fifth

Neighborhood: Old Naples Price Range: Expensive
This place oozes the old-money charm you expect from Naples. The 87 rooms in this gorgeous hotel include 11 suites, each with Tommy Bahama-esque décor, pillow-top beds, newly refurbished bathrooms with Italian marble (suites feature spa tubs), and sliding French doors that lead to a balcony or terrace. The heated pool was recently renovated to the tune of $1.5 million to include waterfalls and a Jacuzzi. Their two restaurants, Truluck’s Seafood Steak Crabhouse and McCabe’s Irish Pub & Grill, rank as favorites not just among guests but also locals. Samples of recent packages available at the Inn include Beauty & the Beach (a girls’ getaway); Romance on Fifth (you can probably guess the theme of this one, but it includes a couples massage, champagne and chocolates), and See & Do Nature (airboat ride, passes to the Ah-Tah-Thi-Ki Museum, a swamp buggy eco-tour and more). As with the other high-end hotels, there are tremendous discounts to be had off-season, including suites for just over $100.
