Although nearly two hours from Panama City, this thin strip of land in the Gulf of Mexico is well worth the drive. Across Apalachicola Bay from Apalachicola, the 28 mile barrier island has enough natural beauty and activities to captivate any visitor. Sun on uncrowded beaches and take a dip in the clear water, explore the marshes, rent a boat, or kayak in some of the island's more remote waters. Take a trip to St. George Island State Park on the island's eastern side, known for its bird-watching. Stroll through town and dig in at St. George's many restaurants featuring local, fresh-caught fish, or browse though numerous shops. The island is very pet friendly, so if you have a dog in tow, the four-legged members of your family are welcome to accompany you to the beach and in town.
