Overview
It is hard to believe that the Callaway Gardens were created in 1952 for the sole purpose of protecting the endangered flower shrub, azalea. Today this 13,000 acre (5,260 hectares) space is Georgia's prime tourist attraction drawing over 75,000 visitors annually. Gardens and flowers aside, the area is replete with nature trails, a man made sand beach, snack bars, a chapel, golf courses and a butterfly center. Another endearing sight is that of pet owners on their morning jogs with dogs in tow! One day may not suffice in these glorious gardens, so should you choose to extend your visit, accommodation facilities are also available for the entire family. Timings are seasonal so call ahead.
