Overview
Arthur Lucas, the proud owner of about 20 theaters, started this theater in 1921. He maintained absolutely cordial relationships with Savannah residents by giving away free tickets and gifts for birthdays and anniversaries. It was then, a popular venue for concerts, films and theatrical performances for about 40 years. With the popularization of other media, this theater was neglected and was proposed for demolition. Patrons, artists and localites who had been witness to the grandeur of the Lucas Theater, donated and collected funds and revived the theater in the year 2000. Now in affiliation with the Savannah College of Art and Design, the theater has regained its popularity and charm.
