Kava Kafe, Hawai'i (Big Island)

This casual bar is one of the more unique places in the North Kohala area. Not a coffee shop, not a bar, but certainly a place where alternative lifestyles and experiences are in order. The main focus of this shop is kava. Made into drinks, the kava root has been used by Polynesians for ceremonies. Pulverized and mixed with water, the root provides a sense of well-being and relaxation. The bar offers other items as well, none of which are mainstream or even familiar. The bitter drink is the center of the experience and well worth the time at least once. It's all legal and even family friendly.
