The southern tip of the Big Island is also the southernmost place in the entire United States. Plenty of visitors make the journey each year, though there isn't a whole lot to see on the way. There is something to hear, however: the windmills at Kamoa Wind Farm. Definitely take time out to stop at Mahana Beach, known for its green sand, along the way. A warning, though: do not ever go in the water. Every local guide will warn you about this spot's perilous currents.
