Aoki’s Shave Ice, Honolulu

Located next door from the more popular shave ice stand, Aoki's is perhaps the less commercialized of the two. Shave ice is a flavor soft and sweet flavor, but the line is typically shorter and sweeter. The plantation era store is a wooden structure painted in the traditional barn red and adored with hand painted signage. The shop serves more than shave ice. Local snacks, smoothies, shakes and ice cream are other temptations. Everything is affordable, delicious and uniquely from Hawaii. Parking is limited to street parking and a small dirt lot adjacent to the store. Expect the lines to be long on warm summer afternoons and weekends. - Lottie Tagupa
