Ideta, Honolulu

Located in the same spot for more than a generation, this classic Japanese restaurant is an old-time island favorite. The restaurant is located across the street from the Kapalama Canal with an exterior that is done in a traditional tea house fashion. The menu offers a collection of traditional selections that keeps the locals returning repeatedly. The sushi is always fresh and tasty, and other favorites include the teishoku (set meal) and udon (thick noodles). The prices are a little high, but the portions are generous. There is free parking adjacent to the entrance and even more in the rear. -Lottie Tagupa
