Yusura Japanese Restaurant, Honolulu

Located on the edge of Chinatown at the corner of North Beretania and Smith Streets, this eatery offers one of the few quality Japanese choices in the area. Traditionalists may balk at the idea that this is more a restaurant that serves Japanese cuisine, rather than a Japanese restaurant, but it does a bang-up job nevertheless. The dining room has authentic Japanese touches and ambiance thanks to the talents of owner and general contractor John Kan. The menu is outstanding, offering everything from udon to curries to complete dinners that include miso soup, tsukemono (pickled vegetables) and rice for unheard of prices.  -Lottie Tagupa
