1970 marked the first year of the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, previously known simply as the Louisiana Heritage Fair. That day in April, when Mahalia Jackson joined the parade and offered her mind-blowing gospel range to the festivities, a music & history lovechild was born. New Orleans celebrates with outrageous artist lineups, artisanal crafts, authentic local food, and an amazing time like no other. Traditionally a mix of gospel and jazz, the festival now showcases big rock bands, folk names, and more.
