Estelle’s Southern Cuisine takes a cue from its South End location, serving up tasty variations of traditional Southern dishes with a contemporary twist that sets it apart from other soul food spots in the area. While the offerings are surely not "authentic" in their ingredients or preparations, touches of savory soul, Creole and Cajun creep in to almost every menu item, dishes such as the tasso ham hushpuppies with orange-chile honey and parsley butter leading off more substantial mains such as the Cajun cornmeal-crusted catfish. The beer menu is arguably the most impressive section of the menu, boasting a large variety of local and nation-wide craft brews. While it may seem sacrilege to Southerners, Estelle's is a creative interpretation of a somewhat static cuisine that showcases time-tested concepts against modern flavors.
