Overview
Near the aquarium on Belle Isle is this aging, magnificent small conservatory. Designed, as were so many other buildings in Detroit, by famed architect Albert Kahn, the conservatory has permanent displays of rare flora, including one of the world's largest collections of orchids. It is known to most Detroiters as the "flower house." Kids and adults alike will enjoy the exotic species such as cacti and banana trees, especially on a cold winter day. Outside the conservatory are beautiful formal gardens where many weddings are held in summer months.
