Overview
One block north of the Capitol, near the Farish Street District, is this cemetery that has provided a roll call of Jackson's illustrious dead for more than 180 years. A walk among the headstones will reveal the names of six Confederate generals, more than 200 Confederate soldiers, several ex-mayors and the elder brother of Eudora Welty among countless others. A common misconception is that Civil Rights martyr Medgar Evers is buried here, but he is actually buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
