Just 17 miles northwest of Jackson, visitors find one of nature's most stunning peculiarities. Registered as a National Natural Landmark in 1966, the Petrified Forest features a 1.5-mile walking trail that takes visitors through this frozen woodland. Along the way, trail guides tell how this phenomenon came into existence. After viewing the trees, guests can stop by the museum to learn more, have a basket lunch in the picnic area or stroll through the gift shop. Open daily 9a onwards.
