Overview
Located in the Farish Street Historical District, Old Mount Helm stands as one of the oldest African-American churches in Jackson. Dating from 1835, the handsome building has served the community in many capacities through the years, including a stint as the chief classroom facility for Jackson State students while the university was under construction in 1883. Despite its status as an historical landmark, Baptist church services are still held here every week for the oldest black congregation in town.
