Overview

The 29th largest Municipal Park in the U.S., the Swope Park is one of the most beautiful parks in Kansas City. The 1,805 acre space of the park encompasses the Starlight Theatre, the Lakeside Nature Center, Equestrian Stables, the Blue River & Swope Memorial golf courses, 10 shelter houses, a number of picnic areas and a lot more! Originally called as the Swope Park Zoo, the Kansas City Zoo features the Tropical Habitat House, the Bird & Carnivora house and a large number of African & American exhibits. It also has the beautifully architectured Swope Memorial, built in the memory of philanthropist and founder of the park, Thomas Swope. Over the years, a lot of structures have been developed and re-developed in the park to enhance its beauty and to increase its utility for the general public.
