Vaile Mansion, Kansas City

Built in 1881 by local businessman, Harvey Merrick Vaile, this 31-room mansion, located in historic Independence, is filled with extravagant furnishings, hand-painted murals and bright ceiling paintings. Architect magazine considers this structure an exceptional example of Second-Empire Victorian architecture. The intricate details and luxurious touches make this mansion a true original. Special holiday decorations and tours are featured from Thanksgiving Day through Dec 30. Admission: adults $5, seniors $4.50, children ages 6-16 $2, children younger than 6 are free. Prices may change during special holiday showings.
