Overview

Cork Creek Field Station, located about 23 miles north of Las Vegas, is part of the Desert Wildlife Refuge that covers 1.5 million acres of the Mojave Desert in southern Nevada. Corn Creek is the access point to the range. It offers opportunities for hiking, camping, backpacking and horseback riding. The field station itself is a peaceful spot full of meandering trails, creeks, ponds and plenty of shady trees. It's a favorite spot for bird watchers, especially during the spring and fall migrations. There are a few historical buildings on the grounds as well. Also make a visit to the outdoor aquarium. Here you'll find the Pahrump poolfish: these small, endangered fish exist nowhere else in the world. -Amy Tjaden
