Whatever your likes, whatever your needs, this is the kind of place where your concierge knows where it's sold and what it will cost you. You can grab memorabilia by the cartload along the beach, go high-end at the shops at the finer hotels, or browse among the many outlets with reduced designer duds in central Atlantic City.

Central Square
Neighborhood: Marina District Fans of youthful designers, such as Alice + Olivia and Foley + Corinna, will want to find time to rifle through the latest oeuvres among the boutiques at Central Square in downtown Atlantic City. This is one of the top places to shop in Atlantic City for its promising collection of quaint, mom-and-pop type stores that aim for an edgier tone than can be found at the big chains at The Walk. There's also the plus of frequent sales, especially in winter, when prices can drop anywhere from 30% to 70%. And Central Square is not just about clothes, either. Shoppers can pick up handcrafted jewelry, local artwork and even homemade chocolate in the heavily-trafficked sweets shop.

Neighborhood: Marina District The name is right--you have to walk a lot to get to this cluster of outlet stores in Atlantic City. Watch out for busy intersections. You'll cross plenty as you stroll to stores like Old Navy, Calvin Klein, American Eagle Outfitters, Timberland and so on. Outlet prices are discounted, but not always cheap; many of the best deals can be found in the off-season during winter sales. During peak sales times, like after Christmas, there will be great discounts, but long lines to accompany them.

Neighborhood: Marina District Shop 'til you drop along the high-energy boardwalk, which has every type of commemorative Atlantic City key chain, T-shirt, coffee mug, hat or towel the human mind can imagine. Tucked between the souvenir sellers are all sorts of gourmet eats--from fantastic fudge to artery-clogging "stuffed pizza" (two thin crusts with cheese piled between) stromboli, hot dogs, cheesesteaks and more. The city planners had the foresight to limit shops to the west side of the walk, so your beautiful beach view isn't blocked by all the crass commercialism.
