Pull on a parka and prep your taste buds: Traveling to Buffalo is sure to involve two things—extreme weather and insanely hot chicken wings. Sample some of the local eats as you go: Aside from hot chicken wings (invented here in Buffalo and ranging in intensity from mild to freakishly spicy), there's beef on weck (a mix of horseradish and roast beef on kummelweck roll that tastes much better than it sounds) and sponge candy, a frothy concoction of caramelized sugar that melts on your tongue.
