Established in 1961, Johnson Estate winery is the oldest exclusively estate winery in New York State, which means that the entire wine-making process is done at the winery, from growing the grapes to bottling. The land was originally purchased by Frederick Johnson in 1908. Today, his grandchildren operate the winery, spanning 200 acres of land. About 14,000 cases of wine are produced each year here. Some of the grapes they grow include Concord, Delaware, Niagara, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay. Their signature wine is Liebestropfchen, which translates to “little love drops". They also make ice wine. Their wine shop and tasting room also carries a variety of wine jellies, gourmet cheeses and wine-related gifts. - Christine A. Smyczynski
