Overview
The imposing structure of the 69th Regiment Armory stands tall on Lexington Avenue. The story behind the construction of the armory begins in the late 1800s, when a need for armories arose in the aftermath of the American Civil War. The style of architecture that embodies this armory was a deliberate break-away from the fortress-style that was so prevalent in armories till that point. The 69th Regiment Armory was designed by firm of Hunt & Hunt in the Beaux-Arts technique, making it even more valuable. Today, the building has a place in the National Register of Historic Places, and plays host to several prominent events.
