Matsugen occupies the large cavernous space that once housed renowned chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s upscale haute Chinese restaurant, 66. The décor of the restaurant has been left largely unaltered; it continues to sport the same sleek and minimalist look of its predecessor. The menu at Matsugen offers a wide variety of freshly prepared sushi and sashimi dishes, along with other Japanese classics like sukiyaki, shabu shabu and Kamameshi, which are prepared with highly coveted delicacies like Wagyu Beef. However, Matsugen is especially known for its assortment of soba noodle (buckwheat noodle) based meals which can be had hot or cold in various different combinations. The restaurant also offers a seven-course Omakase tasting menu, available for lunch and dinner.
