An obscure door on a side street in New York City’s bustling Chinatown leads to a sleek and shiny restaurant whose menu claims to offer Peruvian-Chinese cuisine. Chinese cuisine was first introduced to Peru by Chinese immigrants who went to work there as contract laborers in the early twentieth century. The menu at Red Egg claims to display the resulting fusion cuisine which developed there but is still essentially Chinese with a few token Peruvian dishes thrown in. The restaurant does, however, serve a wide variety of excellent dim sum dishes which are available all throughout the day. Cocktail parties and various events are also held here.
