Overview
The Beatles' song "Strawberry Fields Forever" is the inspiration behind this bucolic spot dedicated to John Lennon. Lennon along with his wife Yoko Ono were frequent visitors to this area in Central Park, as they lived in the Dakota right across 8th Avenue. On the eighth of December every year, a large section of people turn up to show their respect for one of the most celebrated musicians of all time. The 2.5 acre area were dedicated by Mayor Edward Koch in 1985 and today it functions as a Mecca of sorts for all Lennon and Beatle fans.
