Tamil Nadu Bhavan, New York

This authentic and innovative South Indian restaurant located in Manhattan's Curry Hill has a rather ridiculous kitschy exterior in the form of a faux hut but its tasty and richly flavored cuisine more than makes up for the ornamental aberration. The menu at Tamil Nadu Bhavan features classic South Indian fare like dosas (rice and lentil crepes ), idlis (steamed rice cakes) and utthapams (rice and lentil pancakes) However it does have some interesting variations of the classics such as the Nut Rava Dosa, the Mushroom Masala Dosa and the Cheese Masala Dosa. Also worth a mention is the fiery hot extremely authentic Rasam which is served as a soup by itself and as a part of a lunch special.
