Overview

This 1835 building, which was originally built as St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, was purchased in 1973 by a group of people interested in Lewiston history. They converted it to a museum for the Historical Association of Lewiston. The museum, which was renovated in 2008, has a variety of permanent exhibits, including exhibits on the War of 1812 and the Underground Railroad. In the mid-19th Century Lewiston was an important stop on the Underground Railroad due to its proximity to Canada. The exhibit hall also has beautiful stained glass windows to compliment the exhibits. The mission of the museum is to promote Lewiston history and to collect, preserve, and display items related to the village’s history, and to organize special events, including a Christmas tour of homes. -Christine A.
