Charlotte OVERVIEW
The largest city in North Carolina, Charlotte has become a hub for arts and entertainment in the South. From vibrant nightclubs to fine dining to professional sports teams like the NFL’s Carolina Panthers, Charlotte travel offers attractions that aren’t always found in other southern destinations. There's a local joke that guests only take a Charlotte vacation once—because they always end up moving here after their visit. But joke or not, people do move here in droves, making Charlotte one of the country's fastest growing cities. Charlotte means sun, ever-present southern hospitality, and a thriving urban scene that's constantly reinventing itself. In 2010 alone, more than 10 new major venues, from hotels and attractions to landmarks and entertainment districts, joined Charlotte's cityscape. Those in the know head to the Uptown district—also known as Center City—the former primary business district that now serves as the heart of the city, making it the perfect starting point for visitors. ...See More Home to must-see attractions such as the NASCAR Hall of Fame, the Mint Museum Uptown and Discovery Place, it'd be easy to spend your whole visit not venturing outside the neighborhood, but don't. The metro area’s urban corridor can be found just below the Uptown neighborhood in the South End. Formerly a rundown mill district, the South End has been converted into a hip, yet family-friendly entertainment district, lined with boutique shops, restaurants and art galleries. Charlotte’s nightlife varies, from classy wine bars in Uptown, to more eclectic nightclubs in the NoDa district. And if you find yourself feeling the need for speed, stop by the Charlotte Motor Speedway—just don't forget to bring your earplugs.    See Less
