Charlotte Pop Culture

North Carolina mystery author Kathy Reichs writes thrillers often set in Charlotte, including "Devil Bones" and "Bare Bones." "The Old Man’s Plan" by Gordon Bennett is also set in the Queen City. The mystery novel follows a young woman who lives and works in Charlotte. The movie "Talladega Nights" provides a humorous account of the NASCAR racing culture that permeates the Deep South, while "Days of Thunder" with Tom Cruise provides a more sincere view of this culture. "Forrest Gump" with Tom Hanks takes the viewer into the southern mindset. Even though country music can often be heard on the local radio stations, Charlotte offers a diverse local music scene that can be sampled at local bars and music venues.
