Providence Café, Charlotte

Providence is a neighborhood cafe that works hard to give the people what they want. The menu begins with 10 luscious salad options and a number of rustic pastas. They offer an elegant list of sandwiches, and each one comes with your choice of seasoned fries, fresh fruit, rice pilaf, whipped Yukon Golds, pasta salad, or fresh vegetables. The entrees range from regional cuisine like shrimp 'n' grits and prime rib, to more exotic selections like Spinach and Tomato Risotto Cakes and Phyllo-Wrapped Salmon. At Sunday brunch, they throw some pizazz on the old standbys. The french toast is a strawberry-almond french toast, and the Eggs Benedict are augmented with a bit of lobster and crab. From the bar, you can enjoy a draft Yuengling or Chimay, or opt for a signature martini (including such ingredients as watermelon and chocolate chips).
