J.S. Dorton Arena was originally built in 1952 to serve agriculture and industry in North Carolina. This distinctively designed building is a state and national landmark. Dorton Arena's design gained international reputation for its use of parabolic arches, concave roof and suspension cables. It boasts the first use of a cable supported roof system in the world which allows for a column free arena in which no view of the arena floor is obstructed. Now, exhibits, performances and the annual State Fair are held here.
